Management of sports injuries

ACUPUNCTURE

Acupuncture is a tool used in traditional Chinese medicine.  The theory is that the body's own energy flows along pathways known as meridians, and good health derives from a nice even flow of this energy.  Pain is usually a blockage of this energy and is often due to musculoskeletal conditions.

Through the insertion of very thin needles at certain specific points on the body, acupuncture can promote the flow of energy in the body and reduce the sensation of pain.  I find this is a useful adjunct to sports massage in treating sports conditions and injuries.

Interestingly, there is no documented medical reason as to why acupuncture works as well as it does. Some people suggest it may help trigger a release of endorphins - the body's natural pain killers - or that there is some effect on a person's nervous system that aids with relaxation and healing.

Whatever the reason, I've found that acupuncture can really help when performed alongside some of the other treatments I offer, such as deep tissue massage or a kind of treatment that is somewhat similiar to acupuncture in the way it operates, trigger point therapy.

As well as sports injury treatments, acupuncture is well-known as a treatment for a multitude of issues, including arthritis, migraines, stress, nausea, insomnia etc. As well as being used for some slightly more unusual issues, such as to increase fertility or to help people quit smoking.

I'll work with you to uncover the root cause of the issue and put together a treatment plan that encompasses all the relevant techniques - including acupuncture where appropriate - to get you back to where you want to be in the quickest time possible.
